Keith Spain

Keith Spain is originally from Southern California where he completed his undergraduate studies at California State University, Fullerton. His languages include German and Russian. Mr. Spain interned as an International Trade Associate at the Department of Commerce's Export Assistance Center in Newport Beach. During this internship he prepared market research and one-to-one counseling for local exporters. Mr. Spain's interest in commercial diplomacy is to develop a strategy for trade promotion between Russia and the EU.
 

  

Nina Barmeier

Nina Barmeier is originally from Germany.  She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa with degrees in Zoology and Geology. Ms. Barmeier is fluent in German, Spanish, English and also speaks basic French. Ms. Barmeier is focusing on e-commerce and financial services in her studies.
This past summer Ms. Barmeier interned at the International Trade Center UNCTAD/WTO. She worked for the Division of Technical Cooperation and the Division for Trade Support Services. Her future plans include working for the private sector in the area of investment banking or consulting or for an international organization.

  

Rachel Kreissl
Rachel Kreissl is from Seattle, Washington. She will graduate from the Monterey Institute with a MA in Commercial Diplomacy as well as certificates in International Environmental Policy Studies and Mandarin Chinese. Ms. Kreissl has also studied in Italy and in ChinaMs. K. Ms. Kreissl interned in Shanghai with Ferrostaal, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the MAN company based in Essen, Germany. She also interned at the United States Trade Representatives office in Washington D.C. where she worked with the Environment and Natural Resources desk. Ms. Kreissl’s future plans include working with an organization on trade and environment issues.

  

Matt Stephens
Matt Stephens is originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1994, with a BA in International Politics and East Asian Studies. Mr. Stephens speaks fluent Japanese basic Korean. He spent the 1992-93 academic year studying in Japan and an additional three years working in Japan following graduation. Mr. Stephens also worked in South Korea for one year. He is currently employed as the on-site coordinator for the California Council of International Trade's "Monterey Congressional Forum," to be held at the Monterey Institute in January 2001. After graduating from the Monterey Institute he would like to work in a trade-related government agency in Washington, D.C. or Tokyo.

Takashi Kinoshita

Takashi Kinoshita is originally from Japan. Before entering the Monterey Institute Mr. Kinoshita worked as a sales person for Yamazaki Baking company, one of Japan’s largest companies. In this capacity he obtained experience negotiating with customers. This past summer he interned at the International Trade and Industry Division of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). In the future he is interested in joining an international organization such as the United Nations or the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). 

   

Martin Koran
Martin Koran is originally from Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic and is now a U. S. citizen. He earned his BA in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mr. Koran speaks fluent Czech, conversant Slovak, as well as some Polish, French, and Spanish. This past summer he interned with the United States Foreign and Commercial Service in Prague, Czech Republic. In Prague Mr. Koran updated and compiled the Directory of American Businesses in the Czech Republic and designed the electronic version. Additionally, he worked on the Country Commercial Guide for the Fiscal Year 2001 and coordinated Gold Key events for American and Czech businesses. He would like to spend his career assisting Eastern European countries transition to market economies.

   

Mohamed Mouknass

Mohamed Mouknass is from Mauritania, Northwestern Africa. Mr. Mouknass received his MBA from a French business school in Paris and holds a certificate in Asian studies from a Japanese University.His languages include fluent Arabic and French as well as conversant Spanish and Japanese. In the future, Mr. Mouknass is interested in conducting business between American or Japanese companies and those in Africa and the Middle East.
   

   
Kelly Rusk 
Kelly Rusk is from Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Rusk completed his undergraduate studies in Minnesota and the Netherlands in the fields of Business, Economics, and Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Mr. Rusk is serves as the Financial Coordinator and is on the Board of Directors of the INTERNATIONAL YOUTH COOPERATION. This past summer Mr. Rusk interned with the Department of Commerce office in Monterey, California. As a Trade Assistant he served as a Special Representative to the Drafting Committee at the United Nations Millennium Forum. Mr. Rusk runs professionally for Brooks Running Co. and The Athletes Foot. His future aspirations include representing private firms or the US government on trade issues and continuing his athletic career.

   

Tra Huong Ngyuen

 
Tra Huong Nguyen is originally from Vietnam, but has lived all over the world, including eight years in Cuba. Her work experience includes three years on the staff of the Americas Department for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. This past summer she interned at the Export Promotion Department of the International Trade Center UNCTAD/WTO (ITC) in Geneva, Switzerland. She is looking forward a 2001winterim internship with Port of Seattle. Ms. Ngyuen plans to enter a Ph.D. program in order to pursue her career as a professor. 

  

Noritaka Nagayama
Noritaka Nagayama, originally from Japan, earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Chuo University in Tokyo. In the future, Mr. Nagayama hopes to work in an international trade-related business. His is especially interested in trade between the US and Japan.

  

Jessada Nanthachaiporn
Jessada Nanthachaiporn is from Thailand where he graduated with a BA in International Affairs from Thammasat University in Bangkok. Mr. Nanthachaiporn volunteered at the 1999 WTO Ministerial Conference in Seattle, Washington where he was exposed to the increasing importance of the relationship between trade and environment and development. This past summer he interned at the UN’s International Trade and Industry Division (ITID), Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok. The 10-week internship gave him an opportunity expand his knowledge-base and gain professional skills in trade policy. After graduation, he would like to intern with a trade policy organization in Washington DC.
