Background
Paper – Japan Automobile Imports Association, Motor Vehicle Inspection
System The
Vehicle Inspection System is a system for conducting periodic
inspections to determine whether automobiles meet the "Safety
Regulations" stipulated in the Road Vehicles Act. In the
case of passenger vehicles, initial inspection is conducted at Land
Transport Offices, etc. First
inspection certification is valid for three years. For "Type
Designation" vehicles, the vehicle does not have to be presented
for actual inspection by submitting the certificate of inspection issued
by the manufacturer etc. In the case of "Type Notification" or
the "Preferential Handling Procedure" vehicles, it is
necessary to present the vehicle to confirm whether or not it meets the
prior certification. Renewal
inspections (second and subsequent) are conducted every two years.
Vehicles may be inspected at Land Transport Office or at the service
shops licensed by the government to conduct such inspections. |
